It is with deep sadness that the family of Amy May Shaw (Myers) announces her passing on June 27, 2026, at the age of 101.

Born on May 8, 1925, at her aunt’s home on a farm, beside the Munroe Hill, Minto Municipality, Clanwilliam, Manitoba. Amy lived in the Minnedosa Valley for 20 years, attending Cameron Consolidated two room school for grades 1 to 11 and Minnedosa Collegiate for grade 12. After completing grade 12, she attended the United College (now University of Winnipeg) before beginning a year of teaching, on permit, at Westmount School. Amy attended Normal School achieving her teacher’s certification. Amy taught 4 years in country schools, 3 of which were at Lidstone School District in the Swan Valley.

Amy married Bruce Shaw July 12, 1949, a farmer from the Shaw School District, south of Swan River. Bruce and Amy had two daughters, Judy, born 1950 and Karen born 1952. Amy returned to teaching in 1955, retiring in 1987.

Amy lived a life defined by compassion, dedication, and determination. She was known for her kind heart, strength, and willingness to put others before herself. After retiring, Amy began a full-time volunteer and activist role within the Swan Valley. She was involved with the Retired Teachers Association, Crisis Centre, CMHA and the Concerned Citizens Association of North Parkland (CCANP).

Amy touched countless lives through her patience, compassion, and genuine care for others. Whether helping children learn to read, assisting her Occupational Entrance students with securing employment, 

or the number of people she supported or “took under her wing” through out her volunteer work, she approached her work with the same compassion that defined her life. Amy also enjoyed travelling taking many trips during her retirement years including to the Grand Canyon with good friend Marg Potton, New Zealand with Uncle Frank Wilson, BC Coast and island with her parents, uncle Frank and aunt Alice. Multiple trips to western Canada, the West Coast and Vancouver Island with friends and cousins, Ontario with cousins, Northern MB – Flin Flon, Snow Lake & Thompson with her mom and Marg Potton, Arizona and Hawaii with good friend Alice Nieman. Maritimes and British Isles with Cousin Ruth Brewer.

More than any title she held, Amy treasured being a grandmother to Jon, Jennifer, Mervin, Crystal, Corinna and Jolene and a great-grandmother to Tyrell, Ethan, Connor, Seth, Ciaran, Nolan and Faith. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to her life, and she delighted in sharing in their milestones, adventures, and everyday moments.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the healthcare professionals, family members, and friends who provided care, support, and compassion throughout Amy’s time living at the SV Lodge.

Amy leaves behind two daughters, Judy Head and Karen Medwid (Neil Rooks). Six grandchildren Jon Medwid (Patti), Jennifer Bernt (George), Mervin Head, Crystal Spence (Jamie), Corinna Medwid (Darcy), and Jolene Head. Seven great grandchildren Tyrell Medwid (Jolene), Ethan Medwid, Connor Head-Smith (Kana), Seth Spence, Nolan Spence (Raija), Ciaran Head-Smith (Baylee), and Faith Spence. Sister-in-law Victoria Shaw, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Amy was predeceased by her husband Bruce; parents, Jack and Lucy Myers; father-in-law C.E. Shaw; mother-in-law Florence (Anderson) Shaw; brothers-in-law Ian Shaw, David Shaw, John Lowdon, Charlie Myers; sisters-in-law Kay Lowdon, Jean Shaw; nephew Frank Shaw. Wilson family aunts Millie, Pearl, Etta, Violet, Lena and spouses. Wilson family uncles Clark, Floyd, Frank, Alvin and spouses. Many cousins and friends.

Amy will be remembered for the compassion and kindness she showed, and the lives she touched. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her, in the family, she cherished and the many people she supported in finding their path in life.
