It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Barbara Zlotoff at the age of 80 at the Swan River Lodge. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 56 years Ron Zlotoff and daughters Cathy (Roger) and Chrissie. She will also be missed by her precious fur babies Abby and Jasper.
Barb was raised by her parents Effie and Duncan Williamson. She attended school in the valley until her teens where she moved to Winnipeg to attend her senior years at Balmoral Hall. Barb then went on to attend Success Career College where she and dad later met.
They married on December 30th 1967 on one of the coldest days of the year. Barb was determined to start the new year off as husband and wife and together they began their epic adventures together.
Over the years, Rons job with Manitoba Hydro took them to placements all over northern Manitoba. During that time Cathy and Chrissie were born. After three years in Grand Rapids Ron was offered a permanent position in Winnipeg and the family planted their roots in St. Vital.
In the 80s and 90s while the girls attended school and university, Barb took pride in obtaining her education necessary to pursue a possible career in nursing but she did not like it as much as she thought she would. She then tried her hand as an administrative assistant for some of those years as well as dabbling in real estate. She loved to keep busy.
While the girls worked on obtaining their university degrees in Winnipeg, Ron and Barb moved back to Grand Rapids to finish his years out with Manitoba Hydro. Barb was very active in the town helping out where she could. She was very well loved and respected by the community and the staff at Grand Rapids School where she was an E.A. and substitute teacher.
In 2000, Ron retired which brought them back to Swan River where Barb spent the remainder of her years. Her years were spent keeping busy volunteering at the day care and she was very proud to be part of the UCW and Service to Seniors here in Swan River.
Barbara Jean Zlotoff will live on in our thoughts and hearts forever. We will celebrate her life and share the stories that made us smile and giggle. She was an amazing wife to Ron. She was a mother like no other and best of all we could always call her our friend and she was truly one of a kind. A very special chosen angel. We love and miss you so much momma bear.
