It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved father Charles “Charlie Brass” Albert Pochel (Genaille). Charlie passed away at Swedish Covenant Hospital on October 8th, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. Charlie was born on November 6th, 1960 in Swan River, Manitoba to Mary Cathrine Brass and Alexander Genaille.
He joins his wife Tammy Tyson and leaves to mourn their daughters Patricia “Patty Sioux” Pochel, Justine Pochel, Janie Pochel and Fawn Elizabeth Pochel. He also leaves behind his eldest daughter Lawanda Mitchell, his sisters Gayle Brass, Brenda Brass, Donna Brass and his brother Terry Joesph Brass. He is the elder brother of Brenda Brass, Stephanie Brass and Daryl Brass of whom he never (re)connected with as a survivor of the Sixties Scoop. He also leaves behind his mother Nancy Pochel and additional siblings.
Charlie was most proud of being a grandfather to Anthony Tamez (Pochel), Adrien Pochel, Leonard Pochel, Tammy Pochel, Aris Fisher, Andrew Fisher, Eowyn Saldana, Eywa Saldana, Thrasos Saldana, Akio Peters, as well as, additional grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Charlie had many nieces and nephews including Jason Jarvis and Nicole Fabres whom he played a special role in their upbringing.
Charlie is preceded in death by his wife Tammy Tyson (Pochel), his mother Mary Cathrine Brass, his fathers Alexander Genaille and Martin Pochel.
Charlie was a member of The Key First Nation and made Chicago his home. He enjoyed exploring the lakefront, parks and Forest Preserves with his children and grandchildren. He was an unwavering Chicago sports fan through all of the city’s ups and downs and despite being adopted out during the Sixties Scoop Charlie had an enduring sense of self which was evident to all who knew him. He will be remembered by many for his sense of humor and his love for family.
