It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Diane Rebien. Diane passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024 at Swan Valley Hospital Palliative Care Unit after a very brief illness.
Diane was born on May 21, 1948 in Fort William, Ontario, daughter of Anne (Choptain) Wozny and Phillip Wozny.
Left to mourn is her son Rob (Jayleen), 7 Grandchildren; Whitney (Josh), Trevor, Wesley, Ryland, Brett, Lachlan and Dani. Also left to mourn are her brothers; John (Barb), Larry (Barb), Dean and Mark Kerr, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Diane was predeceased by her husband Harry, sister Sonia, parents Phillip and Anne, her son Lorne and her daughter Tammy as well as her mother and father in-law, sisters-in-law and brothers- in-law and her 2nd husband Scott Kerr.
Diane suffered great loss when she lost so many of her beloved family members especially her 2 children and yet somehow she was the kindest and most loving person. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren and she loved talking about them to anyone that would be around.
Diane left home at a young age and started working at the Saan store in Dauphin and ended her working career at the Saan store in Swan River. Diane also had other jobs that she loved but she also worked with people with special needs as she had the most love and patience to offer as she was such a caring person.
When Diane met Harry she fell head over heels in love and they were quietly married in 1970. They began their married life in Kenville in a very small house and eventually purchased a large mobile home that sat on the same property where the house was. Here they raised their family, enjoying doing all the things they loved …. Hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, etc. When they were out fishing Diane would come prepared to can and process all the fish where they camped. Diane loved to cook, bake, fall canning, making peroxides, etc. and all the while she still worked outside the home.
Diane continued living in Kenville after Harry’s passing where she was left to raise 3 young children which wasn’t an easy task but she did a great job. Diane moved to Durban for a few years after marrying Scott and later moved to Swan River for a short time before she purchased her home in Benito where she lived till her passing. Diane had just moved on October 15th to the Thunderhill Courts in Benito and she was so excited for this next chapter in her senior years but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be.
Diane was very involved in the community whether it was Kenville or Durban. She taught Sunday School, organized and helped with fundraisers, perogy b’s, and other various community events.
Diane was an avid “hockey” mom when her boys were in hockey and almost got herself kicked out of rinks for being “too” much of an enthusiastic fan. In the later years she then enjoyed going to Birtle where her son Rob resided as she loved to watch her grandchildren play sports and she didn’t want to miss any of those incredible moments. She loved helping babysit the grandkids when necessary and while Baba was there she made sure she made lots of goodies for her grandchildren whether at their home or hers.
Diane loved going places and always felt so included and happy to go visiting and seeing new places. Diane travelled to Niagara Falls and many other places with Larry and Barb in 2002 and she had an unbelievable time during those 2 weeks. As well, Larry and Barb or just Larry took her on many trips to Edmonton (Stony Plain) where John lives and she was always so happy to visit family and meet new friends. Other trips including going to Kenora where her nephew Marlon had a summer place where she enjoyed being on Lake of the Woods, enjoying the fresh air, fish fry’s, long boat rides and just being able to get away and enjoy nature. She also loved visiting her sister-in-law Cathy in Madge Lake. These were just some of the trips she enjoyed.
Diane loved her curling. In her younger years she curled as often as she could but after her knee surgery she was no longer able to play but she became a professional watcher of curling on the television and she definitely had her “favorite” team skips. Her brother Larry and her would watch curling together whenever they could, they would call each other about curling and when Larry lived in Winnipeg she would come to the city and they would go to the arena to watch the Brier. As well, bingo was another love of hers. She loved going out to bingo in her younger years but later was quite happy to play Kinsmen TV Bingo every Saturday.
Diane has left a void in everyone’s heart and will be missed so much. The daily phone calls or texts, her funny sense of humor and above all her smile. Rest easy Diane .. ??We love you ??
