It is with great sadness that the family of Eileen Lychuk of Swan River MB, announces her passing on August 31st 2025 at the Swan River Personal Care Home. Eileen was the first born of 8 children, born on the farm in Yellowgrass, Saskatchewan. Eileen came into the world December 5th 1928. She also grew up on farms in the Tyvan and Francis districts where she had so many good memories of her busy but happy and loving home. Mom played the guitar and always had music around her either listening to her Uncle Albert, musical neighbours where they would gather and have dances and Mom’s three brothers were all musical and would entertain everyone at every family function. Mom’s regret was that she didn’t take her guitar when she left home to keep it up! Mom attended the Balfour Technical School in Regina SK, she was a typist, steno, secretary, receptionist, whatever the job called for which mainly consisted of working for oil companies, insurance offices plus several Government jobs. One of her favourite jobs was the Regional High School office in Yorkton SK. Mom shared the stories of her past and continued to tell her story. Eileen was a true journalist and her deepest shared love was for written words. She documented her world in personal journals, in letters to friends and family. She made scrapbooks of all the places she travelled. Her script was either by typewriter or by hand of beautifully skilled penmanship. Her favourite author was Danielle Steel, she liked to read in bed before she went to sleep. She married twice, after losing her first husband, Ray Haggerty tragically to Tuberculosis she met our Dad, Peter Lychuk on a blind date her sister Phyllis set her up with on a couples date. She told her “I got the perfect guy for you!” He was tall, dark and handsome! Mom got a second chance at happiness, she and Dad were married in Regina Saskatchewan June 22nd 1956. She married a soldier in the Canadian Armed Forces which meant a life of travel that took her far from home. Together they were blessed with four children-Shelley-Ann born in 1957, Laurel Lee born in 1958, Gregory Peter in 1959 and Twyla Janine in 1963. Her life with her family took her across Canada from the west coast to the east coast until in 1980 Dad retired from the Forces. Following her husband’s dream of farming they moved to the Swan River Valley to farm near his family. Mom being raised in the country enjoyed country life once again after being confined to city life for many years. Mom always had a green thumb! She loved her plants inside and many flowers outside. She grew a big garden and did lots of canning which she always gratefully shared. We loved her pickles and salsa! Mom was always there for her children, very loving and kind and a good listener. She could always cheer you up! Brett, Saegan and Justin were blessed to grow up with their Grandma Eileen, they have lots of wonderful memories spending time with Grandma and Grandpa on the farm and in town. Camping trips, the Brandon winter fair, so many celebrations being birthdays, Christmas and every other holidays. She loved spoiling them whenever she could! Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling to visit their children and grandchildren every year. They also made many trips to visit Mom’s family who were all so important to her. They enjoyed travelling to the States, Yellowknife, Alaska, the Yukon and Newfoundland. At the age of 80 they moved off the farm to Swan River, within a year Dad passed and she had to start driving again! She found a nice group of friends to coffee with, attend community events and play a good game of cards! Her door was always open making guests feel offer coffee with a sweet treat or a meal with tea and dessert. She especially loved having her grandchildren come for a visit and of course Twyla!
Due to a stroke in 2019 Mom had to move to the Personal Care Home where she took part in the activities, getting her hair done and enjoyed visits from family and especially great grandchildren. We will love you forever and always. See you on the other side…in heaven. Your loving family
