Obituary

Elsie (Reimer) Cleaveley of Swan River, Manitoba, passed away in Swan River on March 4, 2022, at the age of 96, just 32 days before her 97th birthday.

Elsie was born near Steinbach, Manitoba, on April 5, 1925, to John and Marie Reimer, the 10th of 12 children. She

finished Grade 8 at the Clearsprings School in 1939 and later completed 9th and 10th grades by correspondence.

Elsie received Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in her early childhood and became a member of the First Mennonite Church of Steinbach where she was involved in Sunday School, youth choir and other church activities. After moving to Swan River and marrying George Cleaveley, she became a member of and faithfully attended the Pentecostal Tabernacle for more than six decades.

She initially moved to Swan River with her sister’s family in the late 1950s. That’s where she met George, and they were married January 22, 1958. They were devoted in marriage for 43 years until George’s passing on January 25, 2001, at age 89.

Elsie loved the Lord and her family and she loved helping people. She loved singing, gardening, crafting, knitting, crocheting, baking, traveling, teaching Sunday School, and serving her church. And she loved to work! She worked at The Lodge nursing home from 1962-1975, and also worked at the Swan hospital and Personal Care Home.

Elsie and George did not have any children of their own but they had many nieces and nephews and took in foster children whom they loved and enjoyed very much. Many called them Auntie and Uncle or Grandma and Grandpa.

Elsie was blessed with health and strength and lived a long, good life trusting in her blessed Savior and in the promises of His Word to keep her.

Elsie Cleaveley is survived by one brother, Milton Reimer and wife, Clarice, of Lynchburg, Virginia, as well many nieces and nephews spread across Canada and the United States.

She is predeceased by husband George Cleaveley; brothers Joseph Reimer, Erdmann Reimer, John Reimer, Bennie Reimer, and Art Reimer; sisters Margaret Reimer, Nettie Unger, Mary Loewen, Tina Hiebert, and Adina Friesen.

In memory of Elsie Cleaveley, donations may be made to the Gideons Bible
