Evelyn Marie Fleming

(Matkowski) 1953-2020

In loving memory of a giving and caring mother and grandmother, Evelyn Marie Fleming (nee-Matkowski) of Winnipegosis, Manitoba who passed away peacefully with her children by her side on April 8, 2020 at the age of 66 years.

Evelyn was born on October 16, 1953 in Winnipegosis, Manitoba to Peter and Sophie Matkowski (nee-Chuhay), the middle child of five children.

Evelyn completed her secondary education at the Winnipegosis Collegiate. She married Jack Fleming and had four children P.J., Pam, Eric and Jon. Jack and Evelyn later separated and she continued raising their four children. In the early 1990’s she furthered her education and was subsequently employed by the Municipality of Winnipegosis where she worked at the Winnipegosis Municipal office as an Administrative Assistant until her retirement in 2014 at age 60. Evelyn’s love for working with the public continued into her retirement. She worked as a Casual Librarian for the Parkland Public Library in their Winnipegosis Branch up until her passing. Evelyn lived in Winnipegosis all of her life and actively served her community by being on several boards and committees throughout the years.

Evelyn in retirement enjoyed travelling to attend school concerts, hockey games, and events of her grandchildren. She spoke highly of her children and grandchildren to those she came across and was so proud of each and every one of them.

She was predeceased by her parents Peter (1990) and Sophie Matkowski (2009), sister Shirley Hucaluk (2018) and her brother Bernie Matkowski (1995)

Evelyn has left to mourn her passing her four children Peter (Christina) Fleming of Minitonas MB, Pamela (Chris) Rempel of Carberry MB, Eric (Elvira) Fleming of Winnipegosis MB, Jonathon (Kayla) Fleming of Swan River MB. Nine grandchildren; Rhaelyn, Tayler, Jeremiah, Sydney, Leiland, Hunter, Kysen, Chase, Jaxon. Siblings Barry (Deb) Matkowski of Matlock MB, Marlene (Garry) Namaka of Stonewall MB, numerous nieces and nephews, along with Aunty Martha Matkowski.

Mom will be remembered for her love of her children and grandchildren, her smile, her laugh, her kind-heartedness, and her delicious family meals.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
