Gayle Virdene Castle

Gayle Virdene Castle (nee Howard) 

October 9,1955 -November 26,2024 

Age 69 years 

After a brief battle with cancer heaven received another angel. Gayle was born in Oxbow, SK. She lived and went to school in Frobisher and Weyburn SK..  

 In 1976 Gayle married Bob Mattson and they made their home on a farm in the district of Lake Alma, SK. It was there that they raised their two children Twila and Kevin. Gayle loved the farm life and all the adventures that came with it; she very much enjoyed being a homemaker - raising her children, gardening, and raising chickens. 

As the years passed, Gayles life took a different path and she moved into Weyburn SK with her children. She and Bob remained friends and kept in contact up until the time of her passing. 

On August 8, 1998, Gayle pledged vows to the man she would spend the rest of her life with. She and Bill Castle were married. They lived in Weyburn for a time then an opportunity came up to own and run a small motel in Wawota , SK. Over the many happy years that followed they resided in Saskatoon and Winnipeg MB.  In 2011, Kevin and his mom made the decision that Winnipeg was no longer the place to be, and he moved his mother and Bill to Minitonas MB where they resided with Kevin and Candace for a couple  

months till they took up the opportunity to run the Thunderhill Motel in Swan River and moved into the onsite manager apartment.  They managed the hotel for some time before their health both started to catch up. It was then that they both moved into the Westside apartments and they remained there till the time of their passing.  

Gayle was a very hard worker. She was never without something to do all the time. She always prided herself in her work in the service industry as a waitress, front desk clerk and housekeeper. She always led a simple and quiet life, living her life with grace. No matter what Gayle faced, she faced it with courage and resourcefulness. She did not let it get her down. She was kind and generous to everyone that ever came into life whether it was to stay or just in passing. She always cared deeply about her family and friends. Her beloved fur babies, Boots and Coco were her babies once her children had grown and left the nest. 

Gayle was predeceased by her parents Herbert (Les) Howard (1989) and Helen (Katie) Howard (1993); Her sister Gwen Downing (2005), Nephew Joe Downing (2021), and her Husband Bill Castle (2019). 

Gayle is survived by: her son Kevin (Candace) Mattson of Minitonas, and his children Alyssa and Breanna. Stepdaughters Brooklynn Wozniuk, and Tawny (Shawn)  Chudyk and their children Lanaya, Eva, and Avery.  Daughter Twila Mattson of Regina and her Children Alyshia and her children Kyla and Kane, Sherefa and her daughter Nova, and Vallon.  Her brother Bud (Karen) Howard of Winnipeg, her sisters Helen (Wayne) Connolly and Vicki (Wade) Lewis both of Saskatoon Sask. As well as many nieces and nephews. 

Cremation has taken place and as per Gayles final wishes no service will be held.  She will remain with Family until Summer 2025 at which time a private family service will be held in Weyburn where both her and Bill had wished to have their ashes spread; back where all the years they shared began.
