Gregory Shaw Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of William Gregory (Greg) Shaw.  Greg was predeceased by his parents Lois and Lloyd Shaw of Swan River. In addition to a large extended family and many friends, Greg leaves to mourn his cherished daughter Nicole (Mike) and granddaughter Elayna; stepdaughter Denyse and her children Jayden and Skylar;  sister Elaine (Mike); nieces Deanna (Adam), Michelle (Jon), Deborah; and great nieces and nephews Abbigale, Connor, Matthew, Michael, Kayla, Emma and Addison; brother Allan and niece Darryl and great nephew Mason; sister Kathy (Ken) and nephews Brendon and Devin.

Greg was born on July 17, 1955 and was raised on the family farm south of Swan River, Manitoba.  He was a talented athlete participating in hockey, soccer and track and field. It was his abilities running track that made him stand out from the crowd.  Greg attended Elmwood High School in Winnipeg for Grade 11 and to take advantage of their Track & Field program; winning the Russell Doern Award for track.  Greg ran in the 1973 Canada Games after which he moved to Calgary to attend Grade 12, graduating from Central Memorial High School and receiving an Alberta Government Achievement Award. Greg ran in the 1975 Western Canada Games and later attended Wayland Baptist College on a 2 year scholarship, receiving the Freshman Athletic Award.

Greg was always quick to strike up a conversation and considered everyone he met, a friend.  It was his social skills that led him into sales where he was kept busy for many years traveling throughout Manitoba attending to his clients. Greg was a jack-of-all-trades and loved to build in his spare time. Two of his lasting accomplishments is the cairn he built that stands in place of the old Shaw School and the apple trees he planted in remembrance of his parents Lois and Lloyd.

He loved to use his skills to help friends and family and was always quick to lend a helping hand and bend an elbow to celebrate a job well done. Greg was very proud of his daughter Nicole and loved being a dad and a grandfather.  He will be remembered by all who knew him for his friendly nature, warm smile and sense of humour.

We will be honouring Greg in a celebration of Life at a later date.
