It is with gratitude for her life and sadness to say farewell that we announce the passing of Inge Frieda Meinel, age 95, who left us peacefully on October 20, 2024. Born on June 18, 1929, in Berlin, Germany. Inge's remarkable life journey began when she immigrated to Canada in 1954 with her two daughters, joining her husband on a farm in Dugald, Manitoba. After a year, the family moved to Winnipeg, where they lived for six years before settling in Thompson, Manitoba. In 2013, Inge relocated to Swan River to be closer to her beloved daughters.
In Thompson, Inge found joy in her work as a salesperson, contributing her talents to various local businesses, including a bakery, Reitman’s Fashions, and Southwood Pharmacy. She was also an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #68.
Inge was a woman of many passions. She enjoyed cross-country skiing, music, crafting, and sewing. A dedicated sports fan, she avidly supported the Canadian Football League’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers, along with soccer, hockey, figure skating, and equestrian riding.
Inge was predeceased by her parents, Eugen and Anna Frieda Staple, her brother Horst Staple, her husband of 43 years, Gerhard Meinel, her daughter Gudrun Hanson, son-in-law Morley Hanson, and grandson Jeffrey Bercheid.
She is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Dorris (Kurt) Ulbrich of Toronto and Herma Stuhrmann of Germany, her daughter Elke Berscheid, her grandchildren Shannon (Lloyd) Settee, Chris (Dana) Hanson, Jody Berscheid, and Steve (Lana) Hanson, as well as her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Should relatives and friends so desire, donations in Inge’s honour may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Inge's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
In keeping with Inge’s wishes, cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest at a later date surrounded by family.
