With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, sister, nana, and aunt. Joan Marilyn Halliday of Swan River passed away in Winnipeg on September 14th, 2022, at the age of 80 years.
Joan was born in Birch River on February 17th, 1942, to her loving parents, Thelma and Gordon Parsons. She spent her childhood growing up on the family farm in Bowsman with her older brother John and her younger brother Wray.
She received her grade 12 education in Bowsman and graduated from Nursing in Winnipeg in 1960. Joan returned to Swan River to nurse at the Swan Valley Hospital.
She married Lorne Halliday in St. Andrews United Church on February 18th, 1961, and they resided in Swan River for 61 years until moving to Winnipeg’s Dakota House in March 2022.
Joan loved being a nurse and enjoyed working at the Swan Valley Hospital, with Lorne as an “on-call” nurse doing many trips to Winnipeg in the ambulance and working at the Swan Valley Lodge for many years until her retirement.
Joan was very creative and enjoyed many hobbies over the years, always striving to learn something new. She loved sewing, knitting, embroidering, needlepoint, crafting porcelain dolls, making cards, beading, creating beautiful quilts, cooking, and baking (to name a few of her many talents). She enjoyed reading, crosswords, sudoku, listening to podcasts, camping, shopping, and walking.
Joan’s greatest joy was spending time with her beloved grandchildren, who kept her busy and very entertained.
Joan is survived and sadly missed by her loving husband Lorne, daughter Susan Hunt (Blake), son Myles Halliday (Heather), son Blaine Halliday (Christina), her beloved grandchildren Cale Hunt (Samantha), Shea Hunt (Lindsay), Joel Hunt (Sarah), Olivia Halliday, and Grayson Halliday, her brother John Parsons (Penny), her sister-in-law Maxine Rovere (Ray), as well as nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Joan is predeceased by her parents, Thelma and Gordon Parsons, and her younger brother Wray Parsons.
