It is with extreme sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of John Olson on June 24, 2021, at the age of 58 years.
John was born on November 9, 1962, in Swan River, Manitoba to Milton and Shirley Olson. He was raised in the Alpine District and received his education in Benito and Swan River. After high school, John attended Covenant Bible College in Prince Albert, for one year. While attending John made many friendships that would last a lifetime. It was during these years at Bible College that we discovered his hidden singing abilities. During the year he worked there, he met and later married Tawnya Foldoe.
They made their home in Alpine and welcomed two children, Jordan and Cailey into their family. John was a very caring, loving, and supportive dad to his children; there was not one concert, dance recital, ball game or skating outing that he did not attend.
Growing up on the farm, he continued his love of farming through working with his dad and uncle, Arnold. Arnold’s love for pigs rubbed off on him and led him to raise pigs of his own. John also worked off the farm, continuing his working years in hardware stores and working for Crop Insurance in Melville, Saskatchewan.
John loved his sports, both playing and watching; he was a man of statistics. John definitely missed his calling of being a meteorologist. If you ever needed to know what the weather would be like, you could always ask him. He would say, “Do you see those clouds? Over there those are….,” He would be able to predict a very accurate weather outcome.
In these last years, John could often be found drinking Tim Hortons coffee while driving around car lots shopping with his kids. Another fond memory created while living this past year in Brandon was hanging out with his daughter Cailey and her fiancé Eldon while making creative recipes and watching home improvement shows.
John was baptized as a young adult and maintained a strong faith, leaning on his saviour through both the good times and hard times. He made many friendships within his church community. His strong faith can be a continuing example to us all.
His untimely death leaves to cherish his memory: his parents Milton and Shirley Olson; sister Laura Olson; children Jordan (Mandy) Olson and Cailey (Eldon) Olson; his niece Kelsey (Zachary) Conant, his special friend Carla Blodgett and by several aunts, cousins and friends.
John is predeceased by: his grandparents John and Margaret Olson and Fred and Martha Rever; his uncles Arnold Olson, Jim, Ronald, Gordon and Arnold Rever and by his aunts Ester, Eleanor and Phyllis.
