Joshua Clarence Cook

Joshua Clarence Cook left tragically and untimely on August 21, 2018.  With heavy hearts, our family is saddened by Josh leaving our fold, our hearts will mend through time under God’s love, His shield and His understanding. 

Our son was born in Swan River, Manitoba on January 30th, 1993.  Our son Josh, a happy, bubbly and energetic baby, Josh, a toddler who shone with loving eyes and a sweet smile with an inquisitive and imaginative look at his surroundings.  Josh, grew to a young man with his infectious laugh, a sweeter smile with a wild sense of humor.  Josh was a gentle man, who enjoyed being with friends and family and honored his responsibility to us as his mother and father.  No task was great, and no challenge for him if we asked him to help around the house, babysitting, cleaning house, mowing the yard, shovelling snow and fixing items.

Josh attended his elementary and high school education at Neil Dennis Kematch Memorial School, a place where he picked up his nickname, “Noodles”.  A name that will be remembered with the love and passion that he shared with many of his close friend.

Our son enjoyed playing hockey with his team mates, the SCN Predators.  Josh adopted a brother from that team, Joel Cook and we wish to acknowledge Joel for this honorary privilege.

Josh enjoyed playing video games and he accepted the occasional challenge from his friends.

Josh attended the Bold Eagle program at the Black Bear Military Base in Angus, Ontario.  This was an accomplishment in his life he was so proud of.  He made many lifelong friends along his path, who have all stated their love for him.

Josh became proudly employed with JB Construction Management Inc., under the Bi-Pole III project.  Our son was employed as an Education Assistant at the Easterville School.   These opportunities fulfilled his ambition to gain experience in fields he enjoyed, all opportunities he was grateful for.

Our son, Josh left a deep emotional toll on all our hearts, however, his mark on earth will be carried forward by his two sons, Josh Jr. and Sage.  Both boys will be shared stories about their father in a positive and caring manner and both our grandsons will forever be a part of our circle. 

Josh leaves us, his parents, Frank and Angela Cook, his brothers Jonathan, Dalton, Frank Jr., Graham, Winston Leask and his sister Franny.  His nieces, Chaylene, Janice, Natalie, Deneah, Thea and Erin, his nephews, Dante. Brayson, Tyler and Frank III.  Josh considered all his nieces and nephews as brothers and sisters and he loved each of them individually.

Josh is survived by his grandfather, Colin Packo and his wife Janice.  Our son left many friends and family in Chemawawin, Moose Lake, Brandon, Winnipeg and Vancouver, B.C.

Joshua leaves his god-father, Samuel Gott and his god-mother, Mrs. Gloria Kematch. 

Our son left his brother-in-law, Thereon Leask.  Both sought solace with each other by sharing a house together.

Josh left to join his sisters, Gail and Iona, his grandparents, Ken and Nora Cook, Beatrice Beardy and all his relatives who went before him.

Joshua suffered from post traumatic stress disorder, a disorder that is non-transparent to others, a disorder that creates chaos to an individuals mental and emotional health.  Joshua reached out, but words could not rescue our son to make him stay.  We will continue to stand strong and faithful with our Lord’s mercy, love and understanding.

We wish to thank all for their kindness and their support.

In honor of our son’s memory, we ask the youth of Sapotaweyak to acknowledge, embrace and learn about suicide intervention.  We ask each young person to help each other during times of need and hardship.  In Josh’s memory, we ask for each young person to gain understanding of emotional, physical, spiritual and positive mental health but also to be aware of and stand up against bullying.  We ask each young person to continue to stand for Sapotaweyak.

Legacy of Laughter

Life handed him a few hard knocks;

Sometimes his luck was bad.

He had the usual ups and downs

As most of us have had.

Grief had its day along his way,

Great fortune passed him by,

But he always came out winner

With a twinkle in his eye.

This legacy of laughter,

A gift from some forbear,

Was all the weapon that he had

To fight life’s pain and care

But he kept his sense of humor,

And he laughed away the tears,

And he went on spreading chuckles

All around him down the years.

And I know I’ll find him waiting,

When I join him by and by,

Likely joshing with the angels,

With that twinkle in his eye.
