Joyce VanderSchaaf of Benito, MB passed away November 18th, 2019 at the age of 69 years.
Joyce was born in IjIst, Netherlands on December 12th, 1949 to Ale and Henriette VanderSchaaf. In 1951, Joyce came to Canada and settled in Swan River. In 1953, she moved to Moose Jaw with her family, then to Brandon to attend school in 1967. She studied at the Brandon University from 1967-1970.
During her career, Joyce taught at the Frontier School Division – Cross Lake, MB from 1970-1974 in Crane River, MB from 1974-1976; Barrows, MB from 1976-2011 and she then retired in Benito in 2011.
Joyce enjoyed gardening, garage sales, crafts, crosswords, sudoku and spending time with family.
Joyce is survived by: her son James (Karla) of Lampman, SK; niece Carrie (Grant) Blosha, with their children Skyler and Conner; niece Tamara (Gary) Homeniuk, with their children Theo and Brennan; nephew Darryl (Shawna) VanderSchaaf, and their son Mason all of Benito, MB; grand sons Constable Quentin VanderSchaaf of Iqaluit, Nunavut and her dog Jack.
Joyce was predeceased by her parents Ale and Henriette.
In keeping with Joyce’s wishes,
cremation has taken place at
Heritage Memorial Gardens,
Swan River, Manitoba.
A service of remembrance will be
announced at a later date.
Joyce will be laid to rest in the
Riverside Cemetery.
