On the most loving day of the year, February 14th, 1997, Kathleen (Katie) Shay Coutts made her debut in the world and this lifetime. She was born to Wendy and Darrell Coutts and welcomed by her three older siblings; Jackie, Ryan and Jared. A few years later she became a big sister when Sean was born.
Katie grew up in Benito and went to school there. She graduated from high school in Swan River, Manitoba. She was the gentlest and sweetest daughter, sister, community member and friend. She was known for her quiet nature and sweet, calm soul.
After graduation Katie worked at various places including: subway and most recently as a homecare worker.
With a love of all things, except insects, Katie was kind to all and had a soft spot for animals. She was creative and loved outlets like painting and crafting. Katie was the happiest spending time with her family and really loved holidays and the gatherings that brought everyone together.
In December of 2021 her son Levi was born. As loving as she was all her life, she was probably surprised that you could love someone so deeply and instantly – more than you imagined possible. Levi was the apple of her eye and she was the best mother to her baby boy.
Katie believed in living a happy life and always trying to do better. She will be remembered always as a wonderful daughter, loving and tolerant sister, and the best mother to her son.
Katie’s earthly journey came to a close on September 30th, 2023 at the age of 26 years old. It will always feel like not long enough but the nature and essence of her spirit seems to be ever present because she has impacted those of us who love her more than she would have known; the memory of her smile, sound of her voice and peaceful presence are unforgettable.
Cherishing Katies memories are: her son Levi; parents, Wendy & Darrell Coutts, Sister, Jackie (Nick) Dingman; brothers, Ryan (Carla), Jared (Adrienne) an Sean; grandparents, Don & Cora Coutts; nieces, Emily and Abby; Nephews, Caleb, Gabe, Oliver, James, Wyatt, Morgan, Skylar, Decker and Max and numerous extended relatives and friends.
A private family service of remembrance will be held. Cremation will take place and Katie will be laid to rest at a later date.
The family wishes to invite guests to a fellowship luncheon with refreshments beginning at 1:00 PM at the Benito Legion Hall on Friday, October 20th, 2023.
