Louise Assoignon Obituary

Louise Sonja Assoignon was born in Benito, Manitoba on August 9th, 1947. She was raised on a farm in Whitebeech, Saskatchewan and went to a country school called Porcpine School, then finished her schooling in Arran, SK.

She worked at the Swan River Hospital as a Healthcare Aide.

Louise married Melvin Hrappstead in 1969. Together they raised 4 children; her stepson, Sheldon, son, Darren, daughter, Trina, and son, Leif. Eventually Louise and Melvin parted company. She later moved to Winnipegosis and had one more son, Gene Assoignon (with Eugene Wallace Thompson).

Louise especially loved her word as a cook at New Horizons, where she met many friends in her younger years. Later in life, she came back to Swan River where she cooked for Service to Seniors.

Unfortunately, Louise had health problems in her teenage years as well as in her 40’s. She battled breast cancer in her 60’s and made a full recovery.

She loved to cook and bake. Of course, most precious to her were her kids and grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She always loved company and she took so much pride having a garden and flowers.

In her most recent years she grew an interest in herbal remedies and holistic medicines. She loved to crochet and read in the winter months and one of her most favourite times of the year was Christmas and decorating the tree. She had a very kind heart, kept up on current events. She held a quiet but steady faith in God.

Through all of her trials and tribulations, she was a very strong woman who got through it with humor. She took on the role of raising some of her grandchildren.

She goes to join her parents, Sara and Gibby, her son Darren, her granddaughter April, as well as numerous Aunts and Uncles, and so many friends she came to love along the way.

Cherishing the memories of Louise are: her children, Sheldon, Trina, Leif (Rikki), Gene and daughter in law (Darren’s wife) Bev Offenberger; grandchildren, Justina, Amanda, Angela, Aleesha, Hanna, Kayden, Ethan, Emma, Lochlan, Noah, Isla, Lothorio, Thaydeus, Emberly, Rhyley, Kacey, Abbey, Josey & Gradey, 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Gabriel & Gerald (Debbie), sisters, Linda & Jenny as numerous other extended relatives and friends.

Funeral: Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 11:00AM at the Swan River Elks Hall with Pastor Bob Lewis officiating.

In keeping with Louise’s wishes cremation has taken place.
