Marvin Patterson Obituary

Marvin John Patterson of Dawson Bay, MB passed away on April 6, 2021 at the early age of 62 years.

Marvin was born on December 9, 1958 in Winnipegosis, MB the son of Marvin and Elva (Senyk) Patterson. He attended Winnipegosis Collegiate where he received his education. As a young man, Marvin commercial fished with his family.

In 1975 he moved to Flin Flon and went to work at Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting where he worked hard as a young man and advanced himself to    Supervisor/Coordinator/Maintenance Planner.

On July 21, 1979, Marvin married Julia Rosteski of Fork River, MB. In 1984 they had their first son Marvin John and in 1985 they had another son Kenneth, who passed away as an infant.

His love of commercial fishing continued during his years in Flin Flon and he always shared fish with the family. He also took up a new hobby, wild ricing and each year we reaped some of his harvest.  He built a cabin at Bear Lake just out of Flin Flon, which later he passed onto his son.  He loved spending time at Bear Lake cabin with his wife and son where they hunted moose, fished and also picked mushrooms and berries.  His greatest pride was his bombardier that he built from the ground up and loved to show it off to everyone.  On a daily basis, he loved to go meet his friends at Johnnie's Confectionary where their fish stories and jokes got better.  All for a fun time.

In 2016 they decided to move to Dawson Bay, where they built their retirement home. He loved to show off his man cave to his friends and have evening drinks with the boys.  He also enjoyed a good card game with friends.  Later he became the Mayor of Dawson Bay to make a difference.  He built Julia many raised vegetable and flower beds and loved gardening, which they shared with the community.  Later he bought a cabin at Thompson Island and continued commercial fishing.  He loved the outdoors and the peacefulness of the wilderness. Every deer hunting season he would spend time with his brother-in-laws hunting.

Left to mourn his wife Julia, son Marvin John, brothers Pete (Giselle), David (Shelly)  and Mark (Jackie) his sister Dianne (Randy) Kornik; brother and sister-in-laws, aunts and uncles, numerous nieces & nephews and extended family and friends

Marvin was predeceased by his son Kenneth, parents Marvin and Elva, in-laws Peter and Elizabeth Rosteski and  grandparents Mary and Sieffert Patterson and Walter and Anne Ferens.
