Age 73 passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on October 7, 2023, at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Nancy was born February 14, 1950, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, to Pearl Tucker and Harold McKercher, the second of ten children. She was raised in the Moose Jaw area before the family moved to Kenville where she would meet her husband, Robert Thomas. With her birthday on Valentine’s Day, it was easy to remember, and a big bouquet of roses always made her special day. The two were married on March 18, 1966, in Kenville. Shortly following their marriage, they welcomed their son Robert Martin (Marty), followed by Tracey Dawn in 1971. They raised their family on the farm near Kenville, running a grain and cattle operation as well as a sawmill. They created many special memories with their children and grandchildren on the farm until retiring and moving to Swan River. She was an active member of her community, a long-time board member of the Swan Valley Credit Union, and volunteered time with many community organizations, which brought her much joy.
Retirement from farming brought more time for fishing, golfing, card games with friends, cross-stitching, also spending winters down in Texas. Many special moments with friends and family were spent out on the boat at various lakes in northern Manitoba. Many new friendships were forged listening to country music and enjoying the Texas sunshine. Friends were always welcome in Nancy’s home; the door was unlocked and the coffee was always on. Family was an integral part of Nancy’s life, with her five grandchildren and their pursuits a top priority. Being a proud grandma, she recently was able to enjoy a trip to the Oregon coast to celebrate their accomplishments.
She is predeceased by her parents, Harold McKercher and Pearl Tucker and in-laws Earl Thomas and Isabel McKay. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Robert Thomas, children Marty Thomas (Tracy-Lynn), Tracey Yaschyshyn (Tom), a special daughter, Hazel Clark. Five grandchildren, Brooke (Michael), Brenna, Brittan, Robby, and Erica, one great-grandchild on the way. Nine siblings, Frances, Wayne, Donna, Charlotte, Beverly (John), Wes, Della (Ross), Lyle (Shelly), and Sheila, sister-in-law, Margaret Earla, and many nieces and nephews.
She will be laid to rest in the Thomas family plot at the Durban cemetery, with a celebration of life to follow on Saturday October 14, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Luncheon will follow at the Westwood Inn, Swan River.
