It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Nellie Kichuk, age 99, of Swan River, MB. Born on March 12, 1926. She passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great granmother. She is survived by her daughter Zenia and son-in-law Eugene, sons Archie and Lloyd, grand-daughter Brenda and Dean Balog and family, sister Lydia Zembal and family, brother William Kutynec and family, brother Archie Kutynec and family, brother Walter Kutynec and family, sister-in-law Alice Kutynec and family. She was predecessed by her husband Peter Kichuk, sister and brother-in-law Mary and Alec Lemenchek, granddaughter Wendee Holten, nephews Kevin Lemenchek, Randy Kutynec, and Ron Kutynec. At 3 years of age, Nellie arrived in Canada with her parents, Karl and Annie Kutynec and settled in the Oakhurst district. Later she met and married Peter Kichuk. They settled at Peter's farm in the Oakhurst district where they raised three children, Zenia, Archie and Lloyd. She loved to garden and supported her family with a wide variety of preserves and baking that was enjoyed by family and visitors. Embroidering, crocheting, and knitting took up much of her spare time. Nellie provided accommodations in her home for several years for teachers at the Oakhurst School. Later in 1970 she and Peter moved to Swan River. She worked in the dietary department at the Swan River Hospital until she retired. After Peter passed away in 1987 she continued to enjoy her garden and close neighbours. She enjoyed travelling, especially by train, to visit family in Ontario and BC. Phone calls from family and friends were a very enjoyable times for her and she looked forward to those calls every Sunday. She lived alone until a month before her passing. Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
