Olga Kushniryk Obituary

Olga Theresa Kushniryk

April 3rd 1926 – September 25, 2022

It is with sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend on September 25th, 2022 at the age of 96 years.

Olga loved life and enjoyed socializing at the Senior Centre, playing cribbage, floor curling, Shuffleboard and participated in a number of Manitoba Senior Tournaments.  Besides ice curling herself, she was an avid curling fan watching the Scotties and Brier on TV.   She loved playing Bingo which brought her joy and sometimes a little cash!  She delighted in travelling throughout Canada and to various locations in the USA, Mexico, Panama and Turkey.

Olga was born to Hungarian parents (nee Gulash) and though proud of her Hungarian roots, throughout her life, she strived to pass on her husband’s Ukrainian traditions to their children and even in the recent years, prior to covid, could still be seen helping to make perogies at the church.

Olga has four daughters and one son. They grew her family to include many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.   Olga was passionate about family and devoted a lot of her time recording family history for her descendants.

Over the years, with a sparkle in her eye, she reminded her children how she was born 17 days earlier than Queen Elizabeth and she was sad to hear on Sept 8th of her passing.   It is an interesting coincident that Queen Elizabeth should pass 17 days prior to her passing.   As the Queen once said, “Grief is the Price We Pay for Love.”   We, Olga’s family, have lost a wonderful woman and we will love and miss her always.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM from the St. Columba Roman Catholic Church. Father Nwaeje officiated. Olga was laid to rest beside her husband, Harry at the Birchwood Cemetery in Swan River, MB.

Paull Funeral Home and Crematorium were honoured to have served the family.
