Robert Thomas Brass

With family by his side, Robert Thomas Brass, passed away on September 18, 2025, at the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 54 years old. He was born on August 18, 1971, in Swan River, Manitoba.Robert had a low-key personality, he kept to himself, and he loved his children; Jessica, Keanu and his baby girl Keanna.

Robert was a humble person and he enjoyed laughing and joking with his friends and family. Robert grew up in Sapotaweyak Cree Nation and attended elementary and junior high school in Pelican Rapids – Frontier School Division and later in his adult years graduated from Adult Education. Robert enjoyed being outdoors every summer, he took part in harvesting sweetgrass in Sapotaweyak Cree Nation, within our traditional lands.He would spend his days picking sweet grass, berry picking and just being out in the land. Robert volunteered at our Sapotaweyak Wellness Program, whenever, they had their sweat lodge ceremonies. He was given his spiritual name “Tall Standing Muskwa” who looks after the Medicine Lodge. He often visited his auntie Stella, stopping by for coffee and a smoke. Left her place always to say “I love you, Auntie”.

Throughout his life, Robert will be remembered, by his kindness and his thoughtful gestures that he gave to his family and friends. Whether sharing a laugh and offering a helping hand to those around him.Robert’s spirit was a good one and we will remember him for that. Kisaketinan, kawapamitinan mena.

He will be remembered by his children Jessica Cook, Keanu & Keanna Copapay and his two grandchildren; Michelle & Jayden Cook, his dad, Harold Brass, his aunties: Stella Norman & Rita Gott, his uncle; Alpheus Brass, his brothers; Gordon & Edward, sisters; Sharon, Elizabeth, Norma (John), Lorna (Darrin) & Loretta and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert was predeceased by his mom, Edna Eva Brass, grandparents; Andrew & Elizabeth Brass, Abraham & Mary Gott, aunties; Louise Cook, Doris Brass, Dorothy Gott, Lorna Kematch, uncles; Ambrose Gott, Edward Gott, Sidney Brass, Brother In Law; Lambert Cook, cousins; Bernie Gott, nephews; Adrian Brass, Darryl Brass, Dallas Brass, & Niece; Brianna Gott and numerous extended family members.
