Samuel Forsachuk Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Samuel Forsachuk.  Sam was born on June 13, 1944 in Canora, Saskatchewan to John and Mary Forsachuk. Sam was the only son with 3 sisters Ann, Irene, and Ollie. Sam lived with his family in the Hyas area for a short few years after he was born before his father bought land and moved the family to the Lenswood area. Sam talked fondly of living in the little one room house with his parents, sisters and grandparents. The family only lived in Lenswood area for about a year when the opportunity to buy a farm west of Bowsman came up. The family moved to the farm west of Bowsman in 1949 where Sam stayed the rest of his life.

Sam grew up working on the farm with his family and walked to Lavander School to receive his education. He continued his education in Bowsman to grade 12. After he received his education Sam worked winters for the Hudson Bay Mining company doing surveying.

In April of 1969 Sam married Valerie Johnston. Together they raised 4 children Carrie, Peggy, Jamie and Tammy. During this time Sam farmed in the summer and worked for logging companies in the bush in the winter. In 1989 Sam decided to rent out his land. Sam worked at the UGG elevator in Bowsman, worked for farmers in the area and was also a baker for several years at the Birch River Bakery. Sam and Valerie separated in 2000 but remained friends. Sam and his daughter Tammy resided together on the farm right up until his passing on November 4, 2023.

During his retirement years Sam could be found at his farm splitting and stacking the firewood for the upcoming winter or tending to his yard and garden. Sam always wanted to do something for others which was shown by his dedication to volunteering for the Bowsman Lions. He could always be counted on to sell tickets, set up a tent or help at the Billy Beal fishing derby. He is greatly missed by many.

In keeping with Sam's wishes a celebration will take place in June of 2024.

Should relatives and friends so desire, memorial donations in Sam’s honour may be made to:
