Thomas Arthur Russell
In Remembrance
It is with deep sadness that we have to say goodbye to Tom. He passed away peacefully at the Swan valley Health Centre on Sept 22nd, 2022 at the age of 75 years. Tom was born to Rita and Norman Russell on May 5th, 1947 He was raised with one sibling, James, on a small farm near the Town of Bowsman, MB. While growing up Tom helped with numerous farm chores like milking cows, feeding other farm animals, helping dad in the field, and on some occasions he would be called upon by neighbors to lend a helping hand.
Tom liked to earn some spending money. At times you might have found Tom walking the back road, as we called it, looking for wildflowers, and bottles. He would always look for marsh marigolds in the spring. He loved the outdoors.
Over the years Tom travelled with mom and dad to visit neighbors in the evenings to play cards and would go weekly to surrounding towns to play bingo, which he enjoyed greatly. Tom moved to Swan River with mom when dad took up residency in the Lodge. Tom dearly cared for mom until she entered personal care. Tom then moved to Fairhaven. For the last ten years of his life he was receiving dialysis three times a week, right until his passing. Tom made numerous friends at Fairhaven; they looked out for one another. He will surely be missed by all.
Tom is predeceased by his mother and father, his brother James as well as
grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
Tom is survived by: his sister-in-law Janet Russell (Stoney Plain, AB), two nephews, Keith Russell and family and Brad Russel and family, and several cousins.
The family would like to thank anyone that helped Tom from time to time, especially the nurses at dialysis and all those special people at the Swan Valley Health Centre. It is much appreciated.
Should friends so desire, memorial donations in Tom’s memory may be made to The Bowsman Cemetery Association.
A graveside funeral service was held on Friday, September 30th, 2022 at 2:00 PM from the Bowsman Cemetery. Pastor Bob Lewis officiated.
AfterGlow
I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one,
I’d like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I’d like tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun of happy memories
that I leave behind when day is done.
