Travis Raymond Stenberg
September 14, 1976 – April 13, 2024
Travis was born in the Swan Valley Hospital on September 14th, 1976 and grew up in the valley. He attended high school at the SVRSS and after graduation he started work building the LP plant in the Minitonas area. He then moved for work to Brandon, MB and Winnipeg, MB working in the construction industry. He also worked in northern B.C. and various places in Alberta. After a time, Travis decided to relocate to Central Alberta where he pursued a successful career in the Oil and Gas Industry.
Travis made his home in Sylvan Lake, Alberta. His love for the outdoors made this the perfect place for him! He loved being close to the Rocky Mountains, where he enjoyed tenting, fishing, hiking (he dragged home many a boulder and lots of driftwood!!), quadding, and sledding. One of his favourite places to go was Abraham Lake. He loved golf, was an avid Oilers fan and attended many games.
While living in Sylvan Lake, he joined the Sylvan Lake Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter, something that he was very proud of and found very fulfilling. Travis enjoyed volunteering whenever he could. He did the annual Polar Dip fundraiser on more than one occasion. He was always one to help anyone he could.
When time permitted, Travis enjoyed going up to the family cottage where he would be fishing in Grandpa’s boat during the summer and sitting by the fire for the evenings visiting family and friends. During the winter, Travis enjoyed sledding in The Ducks with his mom where the two of them had many adventures… sometimes needing to be rescued (but that’s all I’ll say on that!!)
Travis loved to travel. He spent many vacations exploring the different regions of Mexico. He loved Spelunking with the locals and relaxing by the ocean. He made many lasting friendships along the way. Travis also toured the UK, the US and Canada.
Travis lived his life to the fullest, he worked hard, and played hard. He had a huge heart and always had a hug to give.
Travis loved to cook and try his hand with new recipes, he always added his personal touch which of course made them taste so much better!! He certainly knew how to make a fine Brisket on his smoker! He loved to try new things and discovered watercolor painting, something he really enjoyed. He loved stock car racing and funny cars. He spent many hours at the track. He was also a huge Star Trek and Star Wars fan. He loved music and attended many concerts.
Travis unexpectedly passed away on April 13th, 2024. He leaves behind his loving mom: Kathy (Tony) Child; Sister, Naomi (Blair) MacAulay; Nephew Laim MacAulay; Niece Jessica MacAulay; Sisters, Melissa Stenberg, and Laurel (Raymond) McCleary; Nieces, Mikayla and Rebecca McCleary; Brother, Terry (Muta) Child; Nephew Theodore, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He also leaves behind his cat, Scratch, who came to his door one day as a stray many years ago and never left. Scratch is now living out his retirement, very spoiled in Swan River with Travis’ mom and Tony.
He was predeceased by his grandparents Ed and Lena Stenberg, Doug and Frances Sleeman and his dad Raymond Stenberg.
In keeping with his wishes Cremation has taken place, and he will be laid to rest at Heritage Memorial Gardens where Grandpa, Nana and his dad are waiting for him. A private Scattering Ceremony will be held in the Rocky Mountains that he loved at a later date.
If friends so desire memorial donations may be made to animal rescue/shelter of their choice.
“Goodbyes are not forever or the end,
But simply mean I’ll miss you,
Until we meet again.”
