William Kostryba of Swan River, MB passed away at the Swan River Personal Care Home on September 11, 2018 at the age of 97 years.
William was born in White Beech, Saskatchewan on September 18th, 1920 to Jacob and Annie Kostryba. He received his education at the Porcupine School.
William helped his father on the farm, working with the horses, which he absolutely loved.
William was a veteran of World War II, having spent four years in the Canadian Army serving in Canada and over seas from 1942-1946. Upon his discharge he worked as a farm labourer in the summer and at the lumber mill in the winter. From 1948 to 1950 he was employed at the mine in Snow Lake, Manitoba.
On October 1st, 1949 he married Helen Deyneka at Arran, Saskatchewan and they moved to Snow Lake, where William was employed. In the fall of 1950, they moved back to White Beech, to farm and raise a family of three girls and one boy.
William liked farming, hunting, fishing, playing snooker and crib. He was a member of the Senior Centre and won many awards playing games including pool, floor curling and bowling.
In 1986, they retired to Swan River.
William is survived by his son Renny Kostryba of White Beech, SK; daughters Lorraine (Ed) Achtemichuk of Rhein, SK, Leona (Billa) Deepak of Calgary, AB and Carolyn (Lorne) Roming of Yorkton, SK; five grandchildren Amy (Josh) Webber, Sheldon (Navjot) Deepak, Sonny (Suneele) Oberoi, Quinn (Debbie) Zander and Corinna (Mike) Bourbonnais and by ten great-grandchildren.
William was predeceased by his father; mother; step mother; half brother Mike; brother Peter; sisters Mary Chernoff and Ethel Dykes.
