With gratitude for his beautiful life and deep sadness we, the family, announce the passing of Donald “Gordon” Leggatt of Swan River, Manitoba. Gordon passed away on February 3rd, 2024 at the age of 89 years.
Gordon was born at home in Kenville, MB on December 24th, 1934 to Cornelius and Eileen Leggatt. He grew up in Kenville until the age of 5 when he moved to Swan River and lived there for his entire life.
Gordon married his wife, Margaret Leggatt (nee Sagert), on August 24th, 1996 in Swan River. He retired from Powell Motors in Swan River in 1999 where he was a mechanic for 15 years. Gordon also worked as a mechanic at Midtown Esso. He was a fuel truck driver for the Esso Bulk Station, and a taxi driver for Halliday’s.
Gordon enjoyed fishing in Sherridon, MB, Steeprock, and Bell Lakes. He loved all animals especially cats. It was common to find him woodworking, painting by number and coloring. He enjoyed going to coffee houses for music and dancing, going for walks, going for coffee, and picnics with his wife Margaret and friend Darcy Mateika.
Gordon is survived by: his loving wife Margaret Leggatt; his first wife Dorothy Shaw (nee Stubbs) who shares one daughter together, Charlene (John) Corden; Stepson, Lenny Day (Becky Ames); brother Eugene (Marilyn) Leggatt; and sister Joyce (Russell) Hrappstead; Grandchildren, Mason Corden, Kyle Corden, Wendy (Dale) Couet, Theo Day, Katelyn Day, and William Day; Sisters-in-law Darlene (Rick) Linley, Dorothy (Mark) Hudey; Brothers-in-law Ken (Sandy) Sagert, Doug (Dorleen) Sagert as well as many nieces and nephews, extended relatives and friends
Gordon was predeceased by: his parents, Cornelius and Eileen Leggatt; sisters, Irene Pritchard and Connie Humeston; brother-in-law, Jim Humeston; sister, Carol Hrappstead, and brother, William Leggatt; & mother and father-in-law Joseph and Erna Sagert.
A service of celebration and thanksgiving for Gordon’s life will be held on Friday, May 3rd, 2024 at 2:00PM from the St. Andrew’s United Church, Swan River, MB with Reverend Marg McCallum officiating.
Gordon will be laid to rest in the Birchwood Cemetery, Swan River, Manitoba following the funeral service.
Should relatives and friends so desire, memorial donations in Gordon’s honour may be made to the Swan Valley Animal Protection League.
