Gordon Little Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gordon Douglas Little, fondly known as Gordie, on March 2nd, 2023, at the age of 81, in Swan River, Manitoba. He passed quietly with dignity with his wife Ellen at his side.

Gordon was born on May 17, 1941, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Norman and Alma Little and grew up in Winnipeg and the surrounding areas. He met his wife Ellen (Ames) during his time in Churchill, Manitoba and they married in July 1973.  He was known for his honesty and lived his life with caring, devotion, and humor and he devoted himself to his family. His love for family and animals was unmatched, and he lived his life to the fullest to the end.

Gordie was an avid sportsman, as both spectator and participant. His successes were many, including as a snooker champion, achieving an eight ender in curling, and a hole in one in golf, winning a bronze medal in golf in Manitoba 55+ games and being voted the MVP player for his Winnipeg slow pitch league. He remained a faithful fan through the years to the Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers, even during the seasons where success eluded them.

Gordie retired in 2000 after working for Federated Co-Op for many years. He and Ellen then moved to Minitonas, where he quickly adapted to a slower pace of life despite being a city dweller all his life. Gord loved to travel, and he and Ellen visited many new places together, including Poland, the Canary Islands, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and many locations in Canada and the US. Last winter, he spent time with family soaking up the sun and enjoying the warm weather in Costa Rica.

He especially loved the 11 years spent in their winter home in the Rio Grand Valley of Texas, where he could play golf all winter and make new friends. This was one of the happiest times of his life.

Gord is survived by his loving wife Ellen, daughter Tammy, grand-daughter Kristen, sister Bernice, her son James along with nephew Bradley (Jill), and great-nephews Branden and Justin. Gordon was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Raymond and Jack.

Gordie will be remembered as a man who lived his life with dignity, grace, and a sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.

In keeping with the spirit of who Gordie was, a celebration of his life and a beautful time of fellowship will be held on Friday, July 7th, 2023 beginning at 2:00 PM at the Minitonas Community Hall. All are welcome to attend.
