June Hunt

June Lillian Hunt (nee Foster), of Swan River, Manitoba, peacefully began her journey home to join her Saviour on January 17, 2020 at the age of 83 years.  June was born June 7, 1936 to George and Muriel (Johnston) Foster.  She was the sixth child in a family of eight children.  She received her early education at the Floradale District School (Rural Municipality of Minitonas), and completed her high school education at Duncan School in Swan River, graduating from Grade 12 in 1953.   In 1974, June received her Licensed Practical Nurse Diploma after attending the LPN program at St. Anthony's General Hospital in The Pas, Manitoba.  After high school graduation, June moved to Winnipeg and was employed by the Bank of Toronto until her marriage to Charles (Bud) Hunt in 1955.  She continued her employment at the Bank branch in Swan River until 1959. While her children were young, June was a full-time homemaker on the family farm in the Little Woody District and after the family moved into Swan River in 1969.  From 1974 to 1980, June worked as an LPN at the Swan Valley Lodge.  In 1985, she started with Manitoba Health Services, and eventually moved into the position of Continuing Care Resource Coordinator, which she held until her retirement in 1996. After retirement, June volunteered for several years with Services to Seniors.  June sang her way through life with her pure soprano voice.  An extremely talented singer, she was frequently asked to sing solos at weddings and funerals in the Valley.  Along with singing in her church choir, she was a member of the local chapter of Sweet Adelines, sang in many community choirs and cantatas, performed musical numbers in local stage productions, and in her later years sang in the local group The Church Belles.  June enjoyed curling, golf, cross-country skiing, skating and bicycle riding.  Indoor and outdoor plants flourished under her care, and she had a gift for making beautiful arrangements with both her own plants and those she found growing wild.  June was fond of travelling.  She accompanied the Swan Valley Marching Band on their 1976 trip to Europe, was a guide with Norm Olfrey Bus Lines for several tours around Canada and to the U.S. and made several trips to Cuba with her sister-in-law Doris Wray. June was diligent in maintaining and strengthening family relationships, and always looked forward to travelling to the next family event or reunion. Until her declining health made it impossible, June was very active in the life of the First Baptist Church in Swan River.  She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren, and she never tired of their visits and hearing about their lives, their accomplishments and what they were "up to."  June was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband and father of her children Charles "Bud" Hunt; one sister Merceda "Mickey" Rose and three brothers Wilfred, Ray, and Glenn.  June will be sadly missed by her children and their spouses, Joanne (Jerry) Stefanyshyn of Edmonton, Alberta, Blake (Susan) of Winnipeg, Manitoba; her grandchildren, Clara Stefanyshyn, Cale Hunt (Samantha), Shea Hunt and Joel Hunt; her sister Lynn (Jim) Hall of Winnipeg and brothers Donald of Kelowna, B.C. and Douglas (Connie) of Calgary, Alberta; numerous nephews and nieces and  countless extended family and friends.  Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service to celebrate June's life will be held at a later date.  A special thank you to Dr. Mousavi and the staff at the Swan Valley Lodge.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Swan Valley Animal Protection League or extend a thoughtful gesture to someone in need.
