Penny Jean Alberts

Sadly and unexpectedly, Penny Jean Alberts, at the age of 44 years, passed away on February 13th, 2023 at her home in Swan River, Manitoba.

Penny was born on December 17th, 1978 in Dauphin, Manitoba and was the beloved daughter of Raymond and Maureen Alberts.

She was raised in Deloraine until school age and in 1984 relocated to Dauphin, MB with her family. Penny Attended Whitmore Elementary School and would later graduate from DRCSS in Dauphin.

Penny took cosmetology in high school and loved to braid or play with people’s hair. She loved old movies and reading books. Penny loved music and especially loved Conway Twitty and Shania Twain. Her favourite cartoon character was Mickey Mouse and she was often seen wearing Mickey.

Penny was an incredibly dedicated family woman. She loved every member of her family; extended family, both sides – just all people. She had a special, loving relationship with her stepmother, Phyllis and loved her stepsiblings like her own.

Penny met her life partner, Wayne Almas, in July of 1998. As Wayne says, one date was all it took. She soon had 2 children, Conway in June of 1999 and Shania in May of 2001. Their family was then complete. Penny loved her children dearly. She stayed home for many years to raise her kids. Once they were older, and Conway was more independent, Penny started working. She and her family remained around southern Manitoba her whole life.

You could always find a smile and a chat if you saw Penny at Giant Tiger. She was considered a community favourite there and many of her customers came to know and love her on a personal level.

Penny was predeceased by: her maternal grandparents, Albert and Amy Snyder; her paternal grandparents, Harold and Violet Alberts; her uncles, Dave, Tom, Irvin and Edward Alberts; her aunties, Linda Gristwood and Pat Snyder.

Penny leaves to mourn: her partner, Wayne Almas; her children, Conway and Shania Almas; her father, Raymond (Phyllis) Alberts; her mother Maureen Alberts; her 7 brothers and sisters as well as numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Penny was kind hearted. She loved people with her whole heart. She adored her family and stood up for everything that she believed in. She also loved to laugh and we will miss this about her but also so much more. Penny’s passing left us at a loss and she will be deeply missed.

A celebration of Penny’s beautiful life will take place at a later date.
