Velma Quill Obituary

In loving Memory of

Velma Constance Leona Quill

“Kisahkihitin”

May 19, 1949 – January 22, 2023

Velma Constance Leona, crossed over to the spirit world surrounded by love on Sunday January 22, 2023, in Swan River at the age of 73. Velma was born and raised in Shoal River which is now known as Sapotaweyak. Velma’s biggest inspiration in life was to become a teacher. This showed true as she was a dedicated lifelong teacher who taught for over 38 years. After graduating with her Bachelor of Education in Brandon, Manitoba. Velma went on to be a teacher and taught at many locations over the course of her career. She worked in Fort Alexander Nelson House, White Dog, Ontario, Lake St. Martin, and Wuskwi Sipihk. In her final years as a teacher, Velma returned home to Sapotaweyak to teach until she retired at the age of 67.

Velma enjoyed many past times throughout her life. She spent a lot of her time off from teaching travelling around visiting friends and family from all over. She loved staying connected with those she loved. She also enjoyed every visitor that would stop by to visit her at her home. However, her most favourite past time was being at home with her grandchildren and chapans. Velma had many hobbies also which included reading, watching tv and Facebook. Velma enjoyed reading so much that she was known for hunting and collecting books. She also enjoyed just sitting back, relaxing, and watching her favourite tv shows, and staying connected on Facebook. Another favourite hobby was Bingo. She loved Bingo. As side from Bingo, Velma enjoyed playing Solitaire and Yahtzee whether it was by herself, or with family.

Velma’s most cherished moments in life were when she was surrounded by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. All her grandchildren and chapans were the joys of her life. She was a very proud Kokoom and Chapan. All of Velma’s greatest and fondest memories involved her being a grandma and spending time with her grandchildren and those she loved.

In 1968, Velma met Eldon. They had 4 children together and got married August 4, 1984. Left to cherish her memories are her Children, son Sheldon, and her daughters Lorraine and Vanessa. Her grandchildren, Tido, Brandon, Demi, Cassandra, Donavan, Rashel, Candi, Zoe, Amy, April, Colton, and Sylvie. Also, her great grandchildren, Keleka, Mason, Tyson, Koda, Jazmin, Ellie, Darren, and the newborn baby Quill which is not named yet. As well, she will be cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She will always be remembered by friends and family as the teacher, and person she was, but also as someone who loved them so much. She wanted to let everyone know that she loved each and everyone so very much. She loved all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Also, her nephews and nieces from her three brothers. Her sister-in-law Christianne. As well, all her dear cousins, their kids, and their grand and great grand kids too! Velma had so much love to share and she made sure she shared it with everyone.
